Prices are based on the minimum rates suggested by the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), the UK's foremost body promoting excellence in English language editing.

 

Proofreading Services

 

Proofreading services start at £11 per 1,000 words. A free sample edit allows me to calculate a fee for each individual project.

Proofediting Services

​

​This service is most suited to theses, dissertations and business reports as it includes proofreading and formatting and starts at £18 per 1,000 words.

Copyediting Services

​

Four copyediting packages are offered. All include a style sheet, editorial report, plus a 'clean' copy and a copy displaying the suggested amendments.

Option 1

One round* of editing (comprising two passes**), client's amended version not checked. From £16 per 1,000 words.

Option 2

Two rounds of editing, the second to assess the post-edit changes made by the client following the implementation of my recommendations. From £17 per 1,000 words.

 

(Please note that substantial additional material introduced by the client at the second pass stage constitutes a new round of editing and is charged accordingly.)

​Option 3

As option 2, plus the application of styles and formatting to prepare the manuscript for typesetting. From £18 per 1,000 words.

​Option 4

The level of copyedit available through option 3 is applied to 10,000 words of your document so that you can apply the principles to the remainder of your document. Flat fee of £350.

Clients can specify their preferred style guide. I work with the Chicago Manual of Style, New Hart's Rules (The Oxford Style Guide), and/or clients can provide their own house style guide.​​​​​

​*A round of editing means I complete two passes and return your edited work to you.

*"A pass consists of a read-through, making corrections and suggestions as I go. I always carry out two passes to ensure thoroughness.
